The Haldimand Stewardship Council is dedicated to enhancing climate resilience through the restoration of native grasslands within Lake Erie and Niagara River watersheds. By focusing on marginally operable or abandoned agricultural lands, our initiative aims to engage landowners and community members in stewardship activities that promote the protect, restoration, and conservation of vital ecosystems.
We will collaborate with landowners to develop individualized site plans and facilitate the conversion of these lands into thriving native grasslands, complemented by monitoring efforts to evaluate success.
Our project objectives include selecting high-priority restoration sites, developing individualized site plans with landowners, and facilitating habitat conversions. We will conduct pre- and post-restoration monitoring to evaluate plant and habitat quality, ensuring effective outcomes.
To sustain these efforts, we will establish 15-year stewardship agreements with landowners, outlining responsibilities for maintaining restored habitats.
